Land of the Lost is an American comedy film based on the 1974 TV series of the same name. The film was directed by Brad Silberling and stars Will Ferrell. Production of the film began in March 2008. It was originally scheduled to be released on July 17, 2009 but the release date was moved forward to June 5, 2009 to avoid competition with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The film grossed $7.1 million on its June 5 opening day, and was #3 at the box office. The film finished its opening weekend in third place, behind Up and The Hangover with a total of $18.8 million, making it Will Ferrell’s least-successful summer movie opening to that point. Critics largely panned the movie and box office receipts did not meet pre-release anticipation.
